Uber users in Las Vegas can now be matched with a driverless electric vehicle after the company expanded its partnership with autonomous tech firm Motional.

The new option allows riders requesting UberX, Uber Electric, Uber Comfort or Uber Comfort Electric to be paired with a Motional IONIQ 5 robotaxi at no additional cost.

The service covers several major pick‑up zones along Las Vegas Boulevard, including Resorts World, Encore at the Wynn, Westgate Resort and Casino, Downtown Las Vegas and Town Square near the airport. Riders who prefer a traditional car can switch back to a standard vehicle before confirming their trip.

Uber says the Motional IONIQ 5 is among the first SAE Level 4‑capable autonomous vehicles to be certified under U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. For now, each vehicle will operate with a human safety operator behind the wheel, with a fully driverless rollout targeted for late 2026.

The Motional tie‑up is the latest in a series of moves by Uber to expand its autonomous fleet.

Earlier this week, the company signed a multi‑year agreement with Amazon’s self‑driving unit Zoox to bring its robotaxis onto the Uber platform. Limited Zoox services are already running in Las Vegas, and a pilot rider programme is underway in San Francisco.

Uber also announced a separate collaboration with Nissan and UK‑based autonomous driving company Wayve. The three companies plan to launch a robotaxi pilot in Tokyo by late 2026, marking Uber’s first autonomous vehicle partnership in Japan
