Apple is reportedly developing a wearable AI pin.
According to The Information, the device is said to be in the early stages of development and could still be cancelled, but it signals Apple’s growing ambition to move beyond software as it reshapes its AI strategy.
The supposed AI pin would be a thin, flat, circular disc with an aluminium-and-glass exterior, slightly thicker than an AirTag.
Internally, it is said to include two cameras – one standard and one wide-angle – alongside three microphones, a speaker, and a physical button.
Wireless charging would reportedly work via a magnetic inductive system similar to the Apple Watch.
The timing is notable, as Apple is already preparing a major overhaul of Siri – transforming it into a more conversational, chatbot-style experience powered in part by Gemini.
A wearable AI pin could serve as a hardware extension of that effort, offering hands-free access to Apple’s assistant without relying on an iPhone screen.
The concept is not without risk, as Humane’s AI Pin – developed by former Apple employees – struggled badly on release, plagued by poor performance and unclear use cases before the company shut down and sold its assets.
Apple will be keenly aware of that failure as it considers how to position its own device.
Privacy may prove to be the biggest hurdle, as a discreet, always-worn device equipped with cameras and microphones raises obvious concerns, particularly for a company that markets itself as privacy-focused.
If the project moves forward, reports suggest a possible launch window of 2027, with Apple confident enough to target production volumes as high as 20 million units.
