Samsung is reportedly not planning to launch its trifolding phone in the U.S. and other western markets.
Set to debut at the APEC CEO Summit in South Korea between October 28 and 31, the Galaxy Z TriFold marks Samsung’s boldest hardware experiment since the original Galaxy Fold in 2019.
Featuring a dual-hinge in-folding design, the device folds twice to expand from a compact 6.5-inch outer display into a massive 10-inch tablet-like screen, with an intermediate eight-inch stage for hybrid use.
However, sources that are said to be familiar with Samsung’s plans have claimed the TriFold will ship first in South Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE, skipping western markets, including the U.S., at launch.
Industry leaker Evan Blass said on X: “It’s very unlikely that Samsung will release its first trifold beyond Korea, the greater Chinese market (including Singapore Taiwan), and possibly the UAE.”
Supposedly priced at around ₩4 million (roughly $2,780 USD), the TriFold sits at the extreme high end of Samsung’s lineup and will reportedly ship in limited quantities – about 50,000 units initially.
The device is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset rather than the newest 8 Elite Gen 5, emphasizing Samsung’s focus on design and durability testing over raw performance.
Samsung has reportedly been refining the hinge mechanism, software fluidity, and multi-window UI transitions to ensure smooth usability across fold states – an area that will be closely watched given the device’s experimental form factor.
While U.S. fans may have to wait, the TriFold launch signals Samsung’s continued leadership in foldable innovation, even as rivals like Huawei, Honor, and Xiaomi close in on the multi-screen form factor.
