Google has announced plans to invest $15 billion in India to build a state-of-the-art AI data and cloud infrastructure hub.
The initiative – unveiled by Google CEO Sundar Pichai during a press conference in New Delhi – aims to expand the company’s AI research, data storage, and cloud computing capabilities across the region.
The new hub will be built in Hyderabad, a rapidly emerging tech capital, and will serve as a cornerstone for Google’s broader strategy to make India a global leader in artificial intelligence.
In a statement, Pichai said: “India’s digital transformation is one of the most significant opportunities of our time.
“This new investment will strengthen our infrastructure, empower businesses through AI innovation, and help accelerate economic growth for millions.”
Google has said the project will create thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly, and will include advanced data centers powered by renewable energy.
The facilities are expected to host Google Cloud services, AI model training, and local-language AI development, supporting the company’s goal of bringing generative AI to more than a billion users in India.
The announcement follows Google’s earlier $10 billion India Digitization Fund, launched in 2020 to support local startups, digital payments, and internet access expansion.
It also positions Google as a key player in the global race to build sustainable AI infrastructure, rivalling similar efforts by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Nvidia in the region.
Analysts say the move reinforces India’s role as a strategic hub for AI innovation and manufacturing.
With its vast developer community and rapidly digitising economy, the country is becoming increasingly central to global technology investment.
