Elon Musk says Starlink is inactive in India.
The satellite internet constellation service owned by the billionaire businessman’s aerospace firm SpaceX is still not in use in the country after two of its devices were reportedly seized on separate occasions recently.
On Tuesday (17.12.24), the Tesla founder responded to an X post claiming that Starlink was being used by terrorists.
The photo included a photograph of seized weapons after a search operation took place last week at Manipur state in India’s northeast region, where there had recently been a conflict.
Musk – the owner of X – posted on his micro-blogging site: “This is false. Starlink satellite beams are turned off over India.”
What’s more, police in India recently requested Starlink hand over the details of the customer who purchased one of its internet devices after suspecting it was used in the smuggling of a whopping $4.2 billion-worth of narcotics from Myanmar.
Starlink has spent years trying to convince India to allow it to operate its satellite broadband service amid security concerns.
