Apple’s overhaul of Siri will reportedly “lean” on Google’s Gemini AI model to power advanced conversational and search capabilities.
While Apple and Google have long collaborated on search – with Google paying Apple billions annually to remain Safari’s default engine – Bloomberg has claimed the two tech giants have reached a new arrangement that will expand into the core of Apple’s AI strategy.
The upgraded Siri, launching alongside Apple’s new smart home devices later in 2026, will supposedly use Gemini to process web queries and context-aware tasks such as summarzing information, managing schedules, and generating responses that go far beyond Siri’s current limitations.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has described the company’s next phase as its “AI era,” with Apple Intelligence – its in-house framework for on-device and cloud-assisted AI – serving as the foundation.
By supposedly tapping Gemini, Apple aims to strengthen Siri’s web-search functionality without compromising privacy.
Apple will reportedly route Gemini-powered responses through its Private Cloud Compute system, ensuring sensitive data isn’t stored or used to train external models.
The move comes as Apple faces mounting pressure to prove it can compete with the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, whose conversational assistants have rapidly gained traction.
For years, Siri has lagged behind rivals due to limited contextual understanding and rigid functionality.
The Gemini integration, insiders say, will help close that gap, though questions remain about how seamlessly the two ecosystems will work together.
The revamped Siri will debut alongside a slate of hardware updates next year, including a new iPad Air, M5 MacBooks, and Apple’s first smart display.
Together, they signal Apple’s attempt to reclaim its position at the forefront of personal AI – even if it means leaning on its oldest rival.
