Apple is reportedly working on a Siri chatbot for iOS 27.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the project – said to be codenamed “Campos” – would replace the current version of Siri with a more natural, chatbot-style interface capable of sustained conversations.

The goal is to supposedly compete more directly with leading generative AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, and ChatGPT.

While the iPhone maker initially resisted building a dedicated chatbot, executives are said to have reconsidered as consumer expectations shifted.

Unlike standalone AI apps, Apple’s chatbot is said to be deeply embedded into the operating system rather than offered as a separate download.

Users would access it through the familiar “Hey Siri” wake word or by holding the device’s side button.

The assistant is expected to handle web searches, content generation, summarization, coding help and file analysis, while also drawing on on-device personal data to complete tasks more contextually.

Crucially, the revamped Siri would integrate across Apple’s core apps, including Messages, Mail, Photos and Music, and could eventually interpret what’s happening on screen to adjust settings or act on visible content.

Both voice and text input are planned, reflecting how people increasingly interact with AI tools.

Privacy remains a central question, as while rival chatbots retain conversational memory to personalize responses, Apple is reportedly weighing tighter limits to align with its long-standing privacy stance.

The chatbot is expected to be previewed at Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2026, with iOS 27 said to be focusing primarily on this AI upgrade alongside broader performance and stability improvements.
