Shark Tank star Lori Greiner has issued a safety warning to Gmail users.

The 56-year-old TV personality and entrepreneur claims Google has been “allowing AI to scan every single one of your emails”, and she has now urged Gmail users to “not ignore” her warning about it.

In an Instagram Reel, she said: “Google doesn’t want you to know this, but they’ve been allowing AI to scan every single one of your emails.

“I’m talking about everything. Your financial documents, your tax information, your personal conversations. All of it is being scanned by AI without you even knowing it.”

However, Lori insisted the “good news” is users can turn this setting off in “30 seconds”

Lori advised users to click the gear icon in their Gmail account and find the Smart Features setting.

She said: “Under Smart Features and personalisation, you’re going to want to uncheck that box and turn it off.

“Then under ‘Smart Features in other Google Products’ make sure both of those checkboxes are turned off, too.”

She added: “Once you’ve done that, just click save changes, and you’re all set.

“Your emails are now protected from AI scanning, and Google cannot access your personal information anymore.

“So do this right now, while you’re thinking about it and then share this with your friends and family, so they can protect themselves and their privacy, too.

“I care about you.”

She also wrote in the caption: “Important information if you have a Gmail account. Please share with friends and family to help protect them too! Stay alert. Stay safe. Because I care about you.”

However, Google has insisted these features are optional, and users are in control of switching them on or off.

They also assured users: “Gemini in Gmail does not retain your data. We engineered it to work securely inside your inbox so that it only processes what you ask for, then leaves your inbox. Gemini only processes your information to complete your specific request, and doesn’t hold onto that data afterward.”
