Amazon is ramping up its push into AI-powered entertainment, unveiling a major upgrade to its music streaming experience through Alexa+.

The company says generative AI is transforming how users interact with the Amazon Music app, turning simple voice commands into more dynamic, conversational discovery tools.

With Alexa+, listeners can now explore music in a more intuitive way – whether that’s tracking down a half-remembered song lyric or diving deep into an artist’s influences.

According to Amazon, customers using Alexa+ are exploring three times more music than those using the original Alexa, while users seeking recommendations are listening to nearly 70 per cent more tracks.

The upgrade is now rolling out across iOS and Android devices in the US at no additional cost, making the enhanced experience доступible across all subscription tiers.

Alexa+ introduces a more natural, back-and-forth style of interaction. Rather than issuing rigid commands, users can refine requests conversationally – asking for genre tweaks, mood changes, or even excluding specific styles.

For example, listeners can request “play pop songs from the ‘boy from different artists, including Madonna, but skip the boy bands” or ask for dinner-party music that won’t overpower conversation.

The system also enables highly personalised playlist creation.

Users can generate mixes tailored to specific scenarios, such as workouts, travel or relaxation, with Alexa+ factoring in elements like tempo, era and emotional tone. These playlists remain editable and can be saved or shared.

Beyond playback, Alexa+ acts as a music knowledge hub, capable of answering questions about lyrics, chart history, cultural movements and upcoming releases.

Amazon says the goal is to create a “knowledgeable companion” that connects users more deeply with music.

As competition intensifies in streaming, Amazon is betting that smarter AI – not just bigger libraries – will define the next phase of music discovery.
