Polestar is bringing Google’s Gemini AI to its entire lineup.

The Swedish EV maker has confirmed that Google’s next-generation generative AI model will replace Google Assistant across all Polestar cars from Polestar 2 onwards, delivered via an over-the-air update starting in 2026.

The announcement comes as Polestar and Google demonstrated Gemini inside the new Polestar 5 at Slush, one of Europe’s largest tech events.

Gemini marks a major upgrade to the in-car experience, shifting from scripted voice commands to fluid, conversational interaction.

With the new Gemini Live feature, drivers can say “Hey Google, let’s talk” to brainstorm aloud, ask layered follow-up questions or explore topics hands-free – effectively turning the car into a rolling AI companion.

The assistant also taps into Gemini’s broader reasoning abilities, helping with travel planning, learning tasks and other richer on-the-go queries.

Sid Odedra, Polestar’s Head of UI/UX, said in a statement: “Our collaboration with Google is a great example of how we continue to evolve the digital experience in our cars.

“Gemini brings the next generation of AI voice interaction into the car.”

Google echoed the significance of the upgrade, with Haris Ramic, Director of Product Management saying: “We’re excited to bring Gemini to Polestar 5 and showcase it at Slush.”

The integration deepens a long-running partnership that already sees Polestar vehicles ship with Android Automotive OS and native Google apps.

Slush attendees were able to experience Gemini inside the Polestar 5, with broader customer rollout following next year.
