Jennifer Hale wants to return to the Mass Effect franchise.

The 53-year-old actress – who voiced the female version of Commander Shepard in BioWare’s sci-fi RPG series – has been missing from the franchise since the release of 2012’s Mass Effect 3, and Hale has now stressed she “would be there before they finish the sentence” if she was asked to return for a new game.

When IGN asked if she would be willing to voice another character besides Shepard in a new Mass Effect title, she said: “Anyone. I love that universe. I’m ready. Anytime.”

Although BioWare has not officially brought on Hale for Mass Effect 5, she hopes fans will make enough noise to convince the studio to bring her back.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic actress said: “Everyone out there, the more you tell them what you want, maybe the likelier it is that it’ll happen.”

BioWare announced it was working on Mass Effect 5 back in 2020, but updates on the game have been few and far between since then.

In January 2025, it was reported BioWare had been entirely restructured after sales for Dragon Age: The Veilguard disappointed in order to shift all of its efforts to Mass Effect 5.

A month later, BioWare developer Michael Gamble confirmed Mass Effect 5 was “still in pre-production”, but the studio’s “full focus” was now on the game.

A spokesperson for BioWare also confirmed: “While we’re not sharing numbers, the studio has the right number of people in the right roles to work on Mass Effect at this stage of development.”
